As a loving mother and homemaker, I always wonder how I can help create a safe, beautiful home for children and families in need.
For my birthday this year, I’m partnering with A Sense of Home to create a home for a young mother who grew up in foster care. Please donate and join me to stop the cycle of abandonment that is often caused by hopelessness and homelessness. Your support will enable us to transform empty rooms with bare walls, into a fully furnished, functional place of joy for a deserving young mother and her children. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE THIS MAGICAL EXPERIENCE A REALITY!
I remember my first apartment; my mom bought me so many things, helped me move, stocked my fridge, made it a home, everything a loving mother does for her child when they move out. I can’t imagine aging out of foster care and being completely alone. Although, many of the young ladies in this program have children already. Picture this; no family, no place to go, no safe childcare, and the responsibility to raise this child the best you can regardless of the circumstances. There comes a point when the best decision is to put her kids back into the system she came from.
This person needs help. Needs love that she may have never received before.
I want to help. And I want you to help too.
Let’s do something that changes peoples live, together. I appreciate your support and look forward to the very special day we create a home for a young mother and her innocent kids.
— w/love, always —
Christina

STATISTICS ABOUT YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE

- Many children in California’s foster care system experience frequent placement changes. Children who are in foster care for 24 months or longer 15% experienced 5 or more placements and 44% experienced 3 or more placements.
- Youth exiting foster care shared that they often lacked strong and supportive relationships. While extending foster care until age 21 has improved outcomes for youth, many youth still exit care without the support and guidance they need to successfully transition.
- Children in foster care have experienced abuse, neglect, and other adverse childhood experiences that can negatively impact their health. In fact, half of all kids in foster care have endured four or more adverse childhood experiences.
- Unique challenges can prevent students in foster care from attending school. Youth in foster care are more likely to be chronically absent (miss 10% or more days of school) than other underserved youth, due to home placement changes, school transfers, court hearings, and parental visitation.
- In California, the statewide average high school graduation rate by youth is 83%. For students in foster care, only 53% will graduate on time.
- It’s estimated that one-third of all the nation’s unaccompanied homeless youth are in California.
- Research indicates foster youth experience rates of homelessness ranging from 11% to 38%,disproportionately higher than that of the general population.
